I picked up a 2022 Tucson Hybrid Ultimate in August 2022.

I really like the car, but it occasionally it hesitates from a stop - not every time, but just some of the time.

The hesitation typically lasts 2-3 seconds, after which time acceleration resumes normally. Unfortunately, during this acceleration dead-spot my tendency is to press the accelerator further, which of course results in the car taking off like stink from the stop when normal acceleration resumes.

I haven't taken it back to the dealer yet but will do so soon.

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Similar. Also intermittent. Only a fraction of a second, however, so I haven't worried about it.

In a tangential comment in another thread, somebody mentioned they thought it was related to coming to a full stop vs. a (barely) rolling stop.

Yes mine does it occasionally when i don't come to a complete stop. I think it because of all the things the car has to do to make that split moment decision.

Normal when the car is not at a completed stop. However 2 to 3 second lag is not normal.

It's less than a second from a non completed stop for the car to figure out what to do next, and it's not all the time.

Try a throttle reset...
In park with in ignition in ACC only..
Slowly push throttle all the way to floor and then slowly let it back up all the way.

FWIW I've done some experimentation over the past few days.

Its looks like the "full vs rolling" stop is at play in my situation. Specifically, when I come to a full stop, I don't observe any hesitation. Conversely, when I effect a rolling stop, I observe the hesitation. This hesitation lasts for 1-2 seconds, not 3 seconds as previously stated in the OP..

My son has an Elantra hybrid and he observes 1-2 second acceleration hesitation under the same circumstances as I do on the Tucson.

2022 Hyundai Tucson Limited 2.5 Liter DOHC, 5500 miles, purchased March 2022 with 68 miles.
I recently had this same issue with the hesitation from a stop or rolling stop. Then it became an issue of not accelerating especially on the highway. To the point that it wouldn't even reach the speed limit and when I pressed the gas almost to the floor it would start making a scary rattling noise under the hood! I took it to the dealership on 11/10/22. Of course they couldn't replicate the issue. It kept happening and over the weekend it was driving worse and worse and the check engine light finally came on and it sent a code via the Blulink system (P2074F1). Hooray!! Never been so happy to have that light come on!! Was already scheduled to drop it off today, 11/22/22 and as I drove to the dealership on the highway, I actually had to use my hazards because the darn thing would not GO!! And the noise was happening when I tried to press the issue (and the gas). It was actually losing speed at this point. Diagnosis: BAD CATALYTIC CONVERTER!! I'm wondering if there wasn't something else wrong that caused it to go bad.
Disappointed but thankful it is covered under warranty. It won't be done until mid December. I will update this post after I get it back and see how it goes.

This post is unrelated to OP's issue on his Hybrid.
However there is a TSB 21-01-075H that fixes your issue with a ECM update.

I have experienced the same thing and posted there.
Now that you mention it, it seems that indeed it happens on rolling stops. I'll experiment further. It has been mentioned here and elsewhere that the hesitation is normal since it is an hybrid. I also own a 2015 Prius and never had that issue. Maybe the Toyota tech is different?

I have this with my truck. Nor sure if it the same with a Hyundai (23 Hybrid) yet as I have not experienced it, but in a rolling stop my truck has not downshifted enough gears and when I hit the gas it takes a second for the transmission to drop down another gear or two. Possibly same thing happening here as one person mentioned it with the ICE engine as well. Another mentioned not happening in a Prius, however the Prius has a CVT tranny so response may be way different. Just a thought.

Hi all. I have been having this issue as well. 2022 hybrid sel. For me it happens when I’m at a full stop in EV mode. When I’m making a left, trying to jump between oncoming cars and hit the gas hard I feel the engine kick in (1 sec) then downshift (1sec) then finally respond when I’m in the middle of the turn with traffic coming at me (1 sec). It’s really dangerous and I’m taking it in for regular service and will ask about it. I’m testing switching to sport mode before attempting this to see if that solves the issue.

I have a brand new santa fe with 700 miles on it & it is doing the same exact thing. I showed the service manager exactly what it dose. The Dealership has had the car for a week now & has been unable to fix it.

We have the same issue with our PHEV.

Unfortunately this isn’t only limited to rolling stops. If you’re driving on the freeway and need to slow down a bit to change lanes and then quickly accelerate, you run into this issue too, which makes it fairly dangerous.

I find it really difficult to believe that the service centres don’t know anything about this. This seems to be a common issue with all Hyundai hybrid models. The dealerships are likely waiting for Hyundai to release a recall to fix this issue so they don’t waste their own resources on this.

I have a 2023 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid with 2700 km on it. I have the very same issues, hesitates once in a while at a stop sign but the real issue that I have is the car not being able to accelerate when the need arises. The other day I pulled out to pass another vehicle and the car actually slowed right down all the while that the gas peddle was "floored". It took approximately four or five seconds for the car to decide to start accelerating. I have duplicated this same issue in all drive modes.I talked to the Hyundai service manager and he said that he has never heard of that problem. I will be booking an appointment with the dealership and hopefully they can address this problem. This is a real safety issue.

Try disabling your forward collision assist feature (I disabled mine the first day I got the car). "When the need arises" is vague. If it happens every time, you may have a problem, but sometimes the car is more careful than the driver and may inhibit accelerating under certain conditions. It could be that when you tried to pass, you were closer to the car you were passing than your car wanted you to be.

I was going to suggest the same. In fact turn off all driver assist features and see if it still happens.
