I have a Schumacher jump pack, not the charger you linked to. I've only used it once, on someone else's car. It worked fine. Last time I went to use it, again for someone else, it was dead because I neglected to charge it. It was over a year since I had checked it. If you check the pack every 6 months, you should fine fine.

It is no long available on Amazon but gives you an idea of how much cranking power is needed.

The key to having a successful jump with jump pack is be sure it is fully charged! Most need to be recharged every 4-6 months.

I bought a good set of jumper cables over a decade ago. And unlike jumper kits, they do not need to be maintained, nor replaced every few years.

 

But also unlike jumper kits no other car is needed. No possibly needing a stranger to help in a parking lot at night..
I love technology and embraced Computers for example before anyone my age did.
But I agree with your thinking sometimes the simple is better.
But I learned the value of the jumper pack at the airport garage in the early morning hours. (Not the Tucson) No one around but I got it started in minutes.

The Answer is, carry both they take up little room.
