The touch/swipe/slide door handle lock/unlock feature sucks! At least that's been our experience :(
Sometimes they work effortlessly, sometimes never, sometimes what I did to unlock just keep making it lock, and times it's unlocked and just continues to unlock. Very frustrating but just using fob now as I've given up on this POS "feature". Maybe there's something the dealer can do as I can't imagine everyone has this system that works in this totally random nature.
Thoughts???

Maybe you have a faulty lock system? Flawless for me. I don't even look a quick swipe and it's locked, a quick hold of the handle, not touching the lock indent and not pulling the handle and the door unlocks everytime.
I literally sometimes use my derriere to swipe and lock when I have things in my hand getting out. Not kidding.

Just like our Nissan, the fob in your pocket can't have something that blocks it. If it does putting that side of your body close to the door works.

I have a 2022 Tucson ICE LIMITED and I just touch that little indentation on the handle lightly and it works for me every time. However, for some reason my “Spaceship” hates my husband. He has a terrible time with using that feature to lock/unlock the car. It just likes me best!

I am sorry you are having that issue. Have you tried contacting your dealership? What state are you in? I’m in Idaho, wish I weren’t, but I am !

I do wish it had the foot sensor for the back hatch for when I have my hands full. I’m surprised the Limited doesn’t have that. I was especially shocked to find that the Limited doesn’t have the side mirrors that fold in either. My crappy Kia even had that I didn’t realize how much it came in handy and was VERY useful when having g to park next to people who literally don’t know how to stay in their little lines to park. You would think they were driving a freakin’ tank! Some peoples kids….. 🤘🏻🫶🏻

I tend to agree with you. My wife, who is not at all tech savvy, finds it to be an exercise in frustration as well. My 7 year old Lincoln hybrid is so much more user friendly with a very discernible location to touch.
At least we are now aware of the 1 beep is lock, 2 beeps are unlock, helps alleviate some confusion.
Maybe a piece of blue painters masking tape in the door handle indent ???

It's not a swipe, it's a simply touch at the dimpled area. A single fingerprint won't do, it wants a thumb size (or bigger). AND, I found that it takes almost a full second before it locks.

What really bothers me, is that if the driver (with the fob) takes some things into the house and the second person needs to gather a few more things, there is NO WAY to lock the car. The internal door switch/button doesn't work, and the outside door handle sensor doesn't work. The fob MUST be present.

And a warning, DO NOT put your fob down in the trunk area and close the trunk. You WILL be locked out. I've never in my life put keys in the trunk, I've seen (clueless) people do that in conventional cars and lock their keys there. So with a new car, I wanted to test the limits. I kept one fob about 20 feet from the car and tested with the other. DO NOT put your fob in the trunk!

Yup easy: Lock = 1 beep = one syllable. Unlock = 2 beeps = 2 syllables.

"Oh No! Hide! Someone's reading the manual!"

haha I would have bouts of what sure seemed conflicting logic flow diagrams, but some light reading and all better.

This thread got me curious so I got the manual out (novel concept) and read the Unlock your vehicle page.. 5-11. What "grabbed" me was item 2 starting out with GRAB. Not a limp hand shake, and it worked every time.

I'll have to do some more trial and error, we also have those thin silicone fob covers, but I know several of you also have them w/ no issues. I'll try taking them off and try both fobs and see if I have any consistent results.

Here's what tripped me up my first week of ownership. Ymmv. When I went to lock the car, I would just grab the handle, making sure to brush my thumb across the "lock" dimple on the outside of the handle. Sometimes it worked, most times it didn't. I finally figured out that while trying to lock, my fingers were also loosely wrapped around the handle, lightly (unintentionally) touching the handle inside (the unlock zone). That was apparently confusing the car, so it just stared at me and did nothing. It took a while to break that habit since that's how I've been grabbing car door handles for the last 50+ years, but once I quit touching the handle inside surface when locking, it's been 100% perfect.

Ok, this is what I remeber. LOL
go to your settings and you need to set it up there other wise you may need to touch or swipe 3 times
1- One touch or swipe on the driver s side unlocks the driver door only
2- One touch on passenger side unlocks passenger door only
3- TWO touches or swipes on the driver s side unlocks all doors.
4- TWO touches or swipes on the passenger side unlucks all doors.

I have no coverings on my fob, and the unlock is very temperamental. If it's cold in the morning, no chance it's opening, but when warm out, voila! Locks perfectly.

I live in Florida, so no really cold weather here. Car is garaged also. I did find when I first got my Tucson that I was trying to lock the by using my whole hand. IOW, fingers over the handle and thumb used to lock the car. That just gets the locking mechanism confused. So, use fingers on the inside of the handle to unlock and finger/thumb ONLY on the dimple to lock it with no fingers on the handle inside.

Nope. I have a 2023 Hybrid blue and its a mystery as to when it actually works correctly. Sometimes with the key in my hand, sometimes with the key in my pocket. Sometimes I have to touch the handle and sometimes it just unlocks when I get close. Even more annoying is when I walk near the back of the vehicle it will unlock and raise the rear trunk lid whenever it feels like it like its assuming that since I walked to the back of the vehicle, I must need to get in the back area.

Hmmmm........I've never had my door locks unlock automatically (if that is a setting change then I don't remember seeing it). You have to stand behind the car or slowly cross the back for x seconds for the auto hatchback to work. I find it useful when coming out of a grocery store but it still takes x beeps to actually go into the unlock phase...where the beep sound changes to alert you that the hatchback is opening. Admittedly, I have had it open when I am too slow behind the car or stop and talk to somebody. All in all...I still like the feature.

I have a 2023 Tucson Hybird and it took me a bit to learn how to finesse the lock & unlock. I was initally holding the handle and touching the indent to lock confusing the mechanism. Now just a quick grab of the handle unlocks and when I want to lock I use my thumb to touch only the indent on the handle. No problems anymore.

Each manufacturer has its own way of locking and unlocking. A little willing you will over come this. I think we buy cars on budget, quality, looks and what we plan to use it for. Once we choose what we're looking for, little things will not stop us from buying the car.
I bought the Tucson based on the first three points. But as they says it s your money and you choose what you want to do with it.

@bballjer44

You need to read the manual based on that
.

Car door locks up once car starts moving,
-Tail gate will open automatically if you stand beside or back of it, assuming doors are locked
-If you step out an close the door, all doors are locked(check your setting if you need to change this)
-You need to wait around 1 min or so, for the above to function otherwise You need it to do manually.
I think everything should be linked with our mind, but AI in this case is not there yet. LOL
Watch STAR WAR, maybe you could improve some Jedi forces.
May the force be with you. LOL

I disabled this feature because it was too annoying. It would open as I walked by. If I sat down, I would have to hold the close button until it closed - unlike the single long- press to open. Or pressing the close button on the hatch door. On the door lock nonsense - I was confused why the door lock button didn't actually lock the doors. I don't use key fob much because it's keyless. I finally went back to the dealer. Well, they said that Hyundai didn't want us to lock the key fob in the car. Hello? It's keyless. Keyfob belongs in pocket. Except to lock doors. After being annoyed by this for awhile, the service dept. said he would show me. He touched door handle & click, the doors locked. He pointed out the the dimple on the handle and a simple press & the doors lock with an audible ding. Works great. Just wish I knew that sooner. The other annoying this is the locked rear door. When exiting car you can't open rear door unless you unlock using front door handle. While I'm here: driver convenience button. Setting for seats only. You still have to readjust outside mirrors. While this is a great car, these oversights of features that have around for years is puzzling.
