For Canadian owners

I've heard that U.S. owners receive 3 years scheduled maintenance included. Is that also true in Canada? Plus it seems that the warranty terms are different.

No, not available in Canada. The vehicle prices are generally higher in the US to probably compensate for the free maintenance and better warranty.
It's also very dealer specific... there's places in Calgary that offer lifetime oil change
But that means you must go back to the same dealership, and they only cover the oil change portion. Don't worry they'll get their money back in other ways.

Yes I had that with my Caddy and it was just an opportunity to suggest more work!
Don’t be too jealous. In the US all that is included is non-synthetic oil change and tire rotation every 7,500 miles for 36,000 miles. So 4 oil changes and tire rotations. I had my first one done a few weeks ago. The “billed” amount to the company was $55. So all the “complimentary service” will cost Hyundai $220 over the life of the vehicle.

Some other manufacturers have complimentary service for 3/36,000 that actually pays for the scheduled service items - 10k, 20k, 30k intervals.

I ended up buying the 8yr/160,000km Prepaid Maintenance Plus and 8yr.160,000km Plus warranty for my PHEV. I like to have as many of the costs paid up front as I typically keep my vehicles for a long time. I have found the cost of oil changes and servicing continues to go up so by purchasing this now I am protected from any price increases or repairs for 8 years/160,000km. If I don't use the warranty I get money back from Hyundai. I had much the same on my Lincoln and for 7 years I did not have to pay anythinng for warranty or maintenance. It was an awesome feeling to pick up your vehicle after warranty or maintenance and get a bill that was $0. I believe these can be added to your vehicle any time before the first oil change (or at least that is for the prepaid maintenace but I believe this applies to the extended warranty as well.

Wait ... what?! Doesn't the 0W20 required by the HEV/PHEV 1.6T engine mean synthetic oil (or synth blend) must be used?

I was told by my dealer that Hyundai only uses Synthetic oil for this (and maybe all) their vehicles .

GTK - any chance you have a source more reliable than a verbal from the dealer?

FYI, someone from the US on another forum posted their service invoice after their FREE oil change and it did show the use of bulk dino oil!

It shows “Oil - Bulk Oil 5 - $18.55” on my invoice. The synthetic is an “optional upgrade” per the US Hyundai service consultant.

So, how did they "get away" with this, given the manual states 0w20 is required?!

Spoke with the Service Manager. He says they use the specified oil - the upgrade potential that they offer is an oil additive. Much like the fuel additive they try to pedal as well… Still waiting for the spec sheet from him as to what oil they use other than “bulk”. The owners manual recommends Quaker State.

Don't let him off the hook ... force him to prove they used the right weight of oil!
