Fuel Gauge - 2024 Hyundai Tuscon

I have a 2024 Tuscon PHEV - mostly short journeys but maybe once a month longer journey so most of my driving is on battery. I've managed to get up to 2200km between fills most of which was done on solar power phev charges.

My question is related to the fuel gauge in the center of the console underneath the battery gauge. Each time I fill - I fill it to the max - when the fuel gauge resets it can read anything from 595km all the way to 880km.
Is this reading an estimate based on driving and the wild reading of 880km due to the amt I've been getting between fills - even though this is a petrol gauge only (as far as I know) ?

I had an issue when I first bought the car with gauge stuck on full even though the tank was empty so concerned that gauge is not working correctly but maybe someone on here knows if this is how its intended to work.

I believe that you are looking at the Fuel Economy Gauge. It is a horizontal bar that shows Instant Fuel Economy with the Average Fuel Economy to its right. The Average Fuel Economy will show (a meaningless) 999 Miles per Gallon right after filling the gas tank, and for as long as you drive in EV mode and don't start the ICE. (I wonder if 880 km/liter is the metric equivalent of "you just filled the gas tank" 999 miles/gallon.) As soon as the ICE runs, then the Average Fuel Economy starts to drop. lt will stay in the hundreds of Miles/Kilometers per Gallon/Liter until you start using the ICE for a significant portion of the driving time.

Because the Average Fuel Economy calculation is so wonky on a PHEV, it is essentially useless.

See Chapter 4 of the Owners Manual for details.
