Hybrid Towing

Hi guys. Just got my Tucson HEV today, after six months waiting it to arrive. I was really excited to tow some summer gear but my dealership told me Hyundai is not installing tow hitches anymore due to the battery overheating. They told me I should only install a accessory hitch for bikes. I’m disappointed with this because I’ve seen pictures on theirs ads showing this car towing stuff around and initially when I put the order they told me I could tow up to 2000lbs with it. Have any of you heard about this towing issue with the Hybrid models? Thanks 🙏🏻

I have not heard of such non sense. I have seen recently vins with hitches.

So run it like the manual states, and if any issues have another dealer fix it under warranty.

No TSb or recall.

It's a confused dealer or Hyundai issue if true, not your issue.

Given the (probably extended) inconvenience of a baked battery, and the possibility that Hyundai could try and deny a warranty claim, I think it would be prudent to check with Hyundai Customer "Service" and another dealer. Get at least 3 opinions. The HyundaiUSA web site is still showing a 2000 lb. towing capacity (with brakes), but the web site could be out of date.

I have a factory hitch on my PHEV SEL and its a small one. They don't sell the 2 inch ones on the PHEV's to umy knowledge
I am not sure of its towing capacity
Thanks for the input from everyone. I called Hyundai Canada and opened a ticket to have a position from their side, but the guy who talked to me over the phone said he haven’t heard about this issue. He told me the towing capacity for it is 2000lbs.

Also called other dealerships and was told they never got contacted by Hyundai about this issue.

Spoke to people on Facebook from another Tucson Group, nobody is aware about this.

Sounds like my dealership just made that up and God knows why.

The dealer told me the steel hitch is B/O, but never told me it was not installable anymore, this sounds like BS.
My Hyundai "Genuine Hitch" is on order right now.

My PHEV Tucson was delivered early march and my steel hitch is on B/O (back order) right now but my dealer received the the electrical harness for the trailer plug.

In the section 6 of the manual, "trailer towing" capacity is clearly mentioned.

BEWARE : my dealer tried to send me to a third party hitch shop as well at delivery, but I refused. A friend of mine installed a third party hitch into his Santa Fe (a few years ago) and got troubles with water egress in the trunk (where the spare tire is) so Hyundai never fixed it and blamed the third party hitch installer. Also, on some older hyundai's, a design mistake made some trailer wiring caught on fire. So I'm willing to spend a few more $$ to get all the hitch stuff installed at the dealer and make sure Hyundai remains 100% responsible of whatever happens during warranty period.

I will be looking over another Hyundai Dealership to see if they will install one for me because mine is refusing to do so.

Wow, I guess they don't make enough markup on it ? Where is that dealer ?

Just looked at @Adamk pictures from a delivery in MTL, QC and he got his ride delivered on March 11.
His Tucson was delivered with the hitch. This is a dealer installed part.

I start to wonder why my dealer told me the hitch was B/O for my delivery on March 4 .... seems my dealer served me some BS as well ...

He gladly posted a picture where the hitch is shown:

As per today (March 25, 2022), my dealer told me my OEM hitch shall delivered next Thursday (March 31).
This sounds like the B/O is close to an end.
