For those considering purchasing or already have and declined the dealer extended warranty options, you can still purchase an extended warranty directly from Hyundai that adds to your factory warranty (adds rental car and trip interruption reimbursement for warranty issues) and extends the full coverage provided by the factory for 5years/60K miles to 10years/100K or 10years/120K.

I learned about this buying my last 2 Hondas because I will only by extended warranties directly from the company that makes the cars.

The Hyundai dealer I found and bought mine from is in Burlington Vermont, the contact is:

Crystal Careau
Burlington Hyundai Subaru
Business Manager
c: 802-557-5772
w: 802-660-8099 ext. 147
f: 802-660-3400
[email protected]

Crystal got more info from me by e-mail:
----------------------------
What is the VIN?
What is the exact mileage?
What is the purchase price of the vehicle?
What was the purchase date?
What is your address and phone number?
-----------------------------

sent me this quote:
10year/100K/0 deductible: $1,398 (I bought this one)
10year/120K/0 deductible: $1,598

She e-mailed the contract and I called her with credit card info, got everything in the mail a couple of days later.

In my case, the dealer I purchased from was selling the same warranty but backed up by his dealership parent company (valid at any Hyundai dealership in the US). I had some fun negotiating him down, he started at $3,300, then $2,500 and $2,100, then finally told me there was no way I could pass up 10year/100K/0 deductible for $1,750. I did and saved $350 plus my warranty is Hyundai backed. Crystal told me that they are selling them for $300 over their cost.

I see some comments in threads about depreciation and reliability concerns so I thought it worth passing along this info, especially for those that didn't realize you could buy this sort of thing, from Hyundai motors, after purchasing the vehicle.

cheers, roger

Thanks for sharing this info. On the surface it looks reasonable but looking at some details $35/day & 10 days for rental car isn't all that great considering that there are lots of reports on other Hyundai / Kia forums of parts taking many weeks to arrive while the car sits disabled.

Did you purchase from Crystal after your initial purchase?
How long (months & miles) after purchase does one have to get the extended factory warranty? With Subaru it was 36/36.
Is it transferable to a new owner if you sell the car?
Is it refundable if you sell the car prior to 10/100?

yes, I purchased it a week after buying the Tucson
not sure how long you have, often it is available until the full manufacturers warranty has expired, which would be 5/60K for Hyundai.
under 'Transfers' it says you can transfer it as part of a private party sale but not if a dealership is involved (trade-in).
under 'Cancellation' it says you get a full refund if within 30 days, after that the refund is prorated based on either time or miles, minus any claims and minus a $75 fee.
