Hello everyone, The 2019 Hyundai Tucson se 2.0 GDI we purchased used a few months ago is having power issues.
The battery die a month ago and I had a little 2amp charger that has a lead acid mode and a lithium mode. It’s supposed to distinguish flooded from agm.
Any way it worked and we haven’t had anymore issues since. Even though I was puzzled why it happened.
Sure enough my wife got in it today and no start. I grabbed my multimeter real quick and it only had 11.89 volts.
I need to see if it’ll take a charge but I just got a new Noco smart charger and it has a different mode for different batteries.
I was about to hook it up and I noticed the battery looks like it could be an agm.
Its a Rocket battery but it doesn’t say anywhere on it what type. The fact that the sticker says 68ah is a clue but not an absolute for me anyway.
I looked all through the manual (that’s when I found out it says I must remove the battery before changing which I have to figure out that positive side) the manual said everything but what type it was.
I searched online with the information off the battery and car and still nothing telling me what the Rocket battery is. I clicked on one thing that said Hyundai uses lithium which really frustrated me more. I got adds like Interstate wanting to sell an agm for it.
I’m trying to get this done today. My wife uses the car to commute to work tomorrow which she can drive my truck but we’re having server thunderstorms tomorrow.
I don’t have a load tester but I figured if I can get it charged or at least started I can check the alternator voltage with my multimeter and if it’s fine buy a new battery which case I’ll have the auto parts load test this one first.
I’m way out in the country and stuck today without my truck.
So any sharing of knowledge is greatly appreciated. I want to get the chargers going but not by my hunch it’s agm. I need to know for sure.
