I purchased a 2023 Tucson Hybrid one month ago. I traded in my 2019 Honda Insight which averaged 45 mpg (never below 40 and I could push to 50 - 55). So I know what it takes to drive a hybrid and adjust driving for the maximum mpg. So far the best I have got on my Tucson has been 31mpg. Right now, I am logging at 28 mpg. (38???)

I like the suv, but I cannot figure how a company can advertise such a falsehood. MPG was my determining factor in the purchase. What is the answer. They recall for faulty parts. I think there should be some compensation! I cant believe the government can allow this.

Dealer is great. But dont say wait til it's broke in or weather or the way you drive. I read enough complaints - something should be done.

Please look at posts - many with tons of info already posted here.
For starters you are comparing a 3,000 lb economy vehicle with a family suv weighing 3700 lbs.

It's winter here in Canada and at first my mileage went to shit.. after my first service I'm averaging 6.9L/100KM which is about 34MPG. My odo is at 6500KM, you do that miles math for that one LOL

If I understand the portion I copied above, you were using the mileage on your former hybrid to illustrate that you know HOW to gain max mileage out of a hybrid. I too owned a Camry hybrid for 7 years and understand exactly what you mean by that. My mileage numbers, like your Honda's, were within the norm for what I expected. But that doesn't matter here. What matters is that you KNOW how to "milk" good mileage out of your hybrid.

For me that meant NOT warming it up before I drove off, not making multiple 1 mile trips and expecting any kind of good mileage for that "tank," learning how to use "pulse and glide" strategy when possible, and not tailgating so as not to have to hit the brakes so often, no more than 65 on the expressway, and on and on. I assume that's what you meant?

That said, I noted huge disappointments when loading the car with 4 more people, traveling in really cold weather, and hitting over 80 on the expressway. Mileage dropped in a hurry, as it will with any gasoline engine.

Keep us posted on what your successive tanks are and take note of things like temperature, high speeds, multiple short trips, and etc. Hoping that this early bad experience was just a fluke. By the way have you read some of the other posts on this subject like this one here? CLICKY
