Hello,

Has anyone installed an adapter for wireless carplay? Examples below:
Carlinkit
Ottocast

I like the idea of it but not sure if they work well with the vehicle and/or the iPhone 13 Pro I have.

TIA!

I've been using the Carlinkit for a few weeks now in my 2022 Tucson Hybrid with an iPhone 13 Pro Max. Pretty happy with it. It connects flawlessly most times (just takes a few seconds to connect). Tucks away to be nearly hidden. Occasionally, it seems to have some trouble connecting but eventually connects within 30 seconds to a minute. Haven't figured out the cause, but it's not often enough it's a problem. I do find there's about a 1-second lag when skipping a song from the steering wheel. And if you do something like watch a video on your phone with audio running through the car speakers, the audio lag is enough to make it pretty much unwatchable. But overall, despite the little lag/glitches, I'm happy. It's so nice to just set my phone on the charging pad with no cable clutter and go.

I would rather pay $99 at the official website store because I have had bad experiences at Amazon.
Three months ago I went to Amazon to buy an adapter, it runs very well, but suddenly one day, it can't connect with my car, I send an email (which was written on the product page) to ask for help, But I find that the email was the official website store. I can't get the corresponding after-sales help because I don't have the order number from the official website, so I will return my adapter to Amazon. I have purchased one on the official website, I have to say that the official website's after-service is so nice. If you encounter problems in use, they will give you a corresponding solution, and they reply very fast (of course, the premise is that you are their customers😂)

This is the one I have used for a couple of years now:

I wanted to add another adapter option for people to try. This one was $59 when I purchased it through Amazon. I've been using it for a week and it has worked very well. It was easy to set up and connects very quickly, before I've even backed out of the garage. FYI I have not tested it with Carplay, I've only used Android Auto with a Galaxy S22+

I've been using Ottocase for a couple of months. Love it. CarPlay is still CarPlay, and can still be a pain in the a**, but overall Ottocast is fast and reliable. Also it fits tucked under/right above the the USB data port, and I used a couple of EZPass velcro-type stickers to get it to stay up there. Completely out of sight and out of the way except for the little wire coming down to the USB port.

"New" 2022?

Make sure you are plugging the dongle into the left USB socket. Make sure software on both the car and the adapter has been updated. My Carsifi adapter had to be tweaked a bit by the mfr to work with the Tucson.

On the Carsifi the "Intercept AA Protocol" option has to be turned off in order to work with the Tucson.

Make sure the phone is paired to the car's Bluetooth. AA uses Bluetooth to set up the Wi-Fi connection.

Any chance you switched to a different USB cable? Some cables only work for charging and don't pass data. Unfortunately there is no way to tell which is which.

I just purchased a 2022 Tucson limited. Mint condition! I’ve tried to get clear answers on Apple CarPlay. I previously owned an ioniq hybrid & had no issues connecting my phone. Not so with the Tucson. Apologies is advance if this has been addressed on this forum. So. Is it correct that CarPlay will not connect wirelessly on the 2022 limited without an aftermarket adapter? I’ve connected via usb but it keeps disconnecting. I have not updated the cars firmware yet so wondering if I should do that & if so will that assist in CarPlay connectivity? I’d like to connect my phone wirelessly but I’m reading conflicting information: yes I can connect wirelessly and no, I can’t. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

This is what Hyundai says about a recently published software update, supposedly for a wide range of vehicles, including 22 and 23-24 Tucsons and including the PHEVs, which only come in the configuration with nav: "You can connect Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto wirelessly without a USB cable!"

I can't post the link to the update because this is my first post and its not allowed, apparently, but you will find it if you google "GnwBK4".

Now, I installed it in my 24 Ultimate PHEV (Canadian model similar to Limited) and it did not appear to enable wireless CarPlay, but it certainly purports to be adding that ability to vehicles that did not previously have it. I am only aware of the nav enabled Tucsons, Konas and Ioniq5/6s with that issue.

You are correct that on the 2022 Limited trim an aftermarket "dongle" is required for wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. (There is only one accessory slot in the Infotainment head unit, and in the Limited it is used for navigation instead of Wi-Fi.) I don't use CarPlay, but I have a faint memory of one of the firmware updates addressing a CarPlay connectivity issue.

You can Google "wireless carplay adapter review" to shop for dongles. Try to find one that shuts down the Wi-Fi connection to the phone if the Bluetooth connection drops. The USB port in the Tucson remains powered with the car turned off, so the Wi-Fi connection between the dongle and your phone won't drop on its own. I had to work with Carsifi to add this functionality to their AA dongle.

I am having an excellent experience with the Ottocast adapter. It's also just small enough to fit right above the USB port tucked away with a couple of EZ-Pass stickers, so all you see is the short USB cord.

Nope, haven't noticed any. I use CarPlay for playing music, calls, and occasionally navigation (I'm actually partial to the on-board nav). CarPlay is still CarPlay, with its quirks, but at least the phone is not wired now getting hot as a griddle. Battery usage on the phone during CarPlay is excellent. It mostly reconnects when I get in the car with no issue. And, since the Ottocast is plugged into the USB port, it's easy enough to reset the system if need be. I can say that the Ottocast has given me far fewer hiccups than the wired system did.

New owner of a CPO 2022 Hyundai Tucson Limited Hybrid:

Just wanted to share that I just updated to the latest nav sw and the wireless carplay feature did not show up.

Here's hoping that changes in the future.
It won't ever, radio not capable of it.
I'm trying to square this statement with the fact that the lower trim level Tucsons with the smaller display and no navigation built long before ccNC was introduced already have wireless CarPlay, and lots of internet posters on Reddit and elsewhere saying that the hardware in nav-equipped models is capable, but that the feature was removed due to a disagreement over whether the nav button should activate CarPlay vs the native navigation functionality. It would be nice to hear something from an authoritative source.
This has been discussed over and over and over again here. If Reddit is your source you will misinformed more than informed. That explanation is made up. Do they really think the top of the line Luxury Genesis could do wireless with navigation but Hyundai chose not to? Do they think now Hyundai has an agreement they did not before but are being denied adding to older radios with a simple update, again like a Luxury car?

The answer is no. The Navigation edition of the infotainment system can not also do wireless Carplay/Android auto, never will till the updated system in the 2025 model. A search here will bring up threads.

If you did a search on the internet you would find this below. Notice no mention of the Tucson because till 2025 it does not have the new ccNC system that can do wireless with navigation.
The cars mentioned in the link are new generation as of 2024 so have the new system now.
"Hyundai will enable wireless Android Auto and CarPlay in systems equipped with the new Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), beginning with the new Kona and Kona EV. Additionally, the software update will ship to Hyundai Grandeur, Sonata facelift, the new Santa Fe, IONIQ 5, and Kia EV9. The new Sorento will also get the update at a later time."

Another reason, although I did not know it at the time, why I didn’t buy the top of the line Tucson Hybrid (I also hate leather seats).

When I bought my 2022 Tucson Hybrid (August 2021) it was the only Tucson Hybrid on the dealer lot. My wife’s 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid has inbuilt navigation and Ford want $150 to update the maps. I’m glad my car uses the phone for navigation, love the wireless charging pad and wireless connection to the phone.

Wireless USB adaptors of which there are many make this a non issue for most people. No difference than built in wireless in daily use.

No Tucson has Wifi access. Guessing you mean wireless Android Auto or Carplay?
Hyundai Bluelink offers a Wi-Fi hotspot service that allows passengers to connect to the internet in their car. To use the Wi-Fi hotspot, you'll need to:
  1. Ensure you're enrolled in Bluelink
  2. Check that your free trial or paid data subscription is active
  3. Enable the hotspot in your vehicle
  4. Connect your mobile device to the vehicle's Wi-Fi hotspo

I've been holding off buying a wireless Carplay adapter for my '24 Tucson Limited because I'm a bit OCD about looking at an ugly third party gizmo sitting in the phone tray near the USB ports. But after driving a rental car with wireless Carplay the past two weeks, I relented and was delighted to find a really tiny adapter for my Tuscon that's smaller than a USB thumb drive. It's called the MMB mini, and I got it on Amazon for $40. I'm hesitant to post a review of a device that I've had in my hands less than 24 hours, but so far I'm delighted. Seems to work perfectly.

I've been using this one for a couple of months, works quite well: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D38NP7L3?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1&th=1
