Avoid the rain-sensing wipers?

Saw some posts about the rain-sensing wiper not having an option to make it a fixed interval wiper.
I am in Seattle and it rains a lot here. So how acute is this problem?
Am I better off avoiding the "Limited" trim with rain-sensing wipers?

The settings on the Limited are Mist / Off / Auto / Lo / Hi. The settings on the lower trims are Mist / Off / Interval / Lo / Hi.

In my experience the Automatic wiper function works quite well. We get everything from light mist to gully washers in North Carolina. If you've got some water on the windshield that the sensor can't see, just flick the stalk down to Lo and back to Auto for a single wipe.

Anything that automates previously manual functions (automatic wipers, automatic high/low beams, Highway Driving Assist, Lane Keeping/Following, Adaptive Cruise Control, etc.) lets me focus more on driving and my surroundings and makes me a better, safer driver. I am much more relaxed after road trips when I use Highway Driving Assist.

If it's not already part of your routine, apply Aquapel to (at least) the windshield, rear window, mirrors and headlights.

I rather have the feature then not. On my 2011 Murano I had it, then on my 2017 Murano they took it off and I missed it, but didn t stop me getting another Murano. As Captain stated, put it on slow. And on Auto, I will be on when you get a couple drops and you can speed it or slow it down.

Look I took the HEV Luxury, has electric driver seat but no memory, actually this was more important then the wipers.

But no car is perfect, you have to decide what is important to have and not to have.

For me, the only downside with the automatic wipers is forgetting to turn them off before going through the car wash! I live in a condo with no hand washing facility nearby, so I use the car wash monthly, but I've now switched to a brushless wash just to avoid the wiper coming on and getting caught in the first roller brush that hits the windshield.

Memory is the second thing that goes when you get old. I forget the first.

If I'm understanding your concern, it's that the rain sensing feature is the only "mode," but as you will see from the other posts here, that is only an option. The wipers can be used in the way most of us are familiar with, including a dial to adjust the interval. As some posts here in this thread have noted, some find the rain sensing feature convenient. But if you don't, you can just go "traditional."

I believe, like was mentioned earlier in this thread, the Limited trim has Auto control wipers selected whenever the control is set at the intermittent setting. When intermittent is selected it will function intermittently as needed but will be automatic. There is no extra setting for a manual intermittent, I think that's the issue the OP was having.
With the lower trim models the intermittent function works as intermittent only, and won't stop if the rain stops.

My '23 gas Ltd only has - Mist - Off - Auto - Low - Hi .... The Rain sensor only works, so far - in Auto.
Then it's working as it should (y)
The rain sensor only activates the wiper when the stock is selected to "intermittent" for those that have that feature in their Limited Tucsons.

My previous car, a Santa Fe, had the rain sensing wipers. They worked fine. My current Tucson just has the intermittent wipers. They also work fine. Either one just takes a bit of adjustment now and then. The rainfall rate doesn't always cooperate. If I found a vehicle that had exactly the features and options I was looking for, except the wipers, I would buy it in a second. Intermittent vs. sensing wipers are way down my list of must-have options.

Just to add to this thread, the auto wipers work MUCH better when your wipers are in good shape.

Any streaking (even minor) will affect the sensor and cause them to wipe too much.

My OEM wipers were absolute garbage. Once I put on some Michelin wipers from Costco, the auto wipers worked so much better.

Same result in other cars with auto wipers as well.

So I just need to confirm 100%, I have a 2025 Tucson Hybrid Limited with the auto rain sensing feature. It appears having this theoretically cool feature basically disables the manual intermittent switch. Is there any way possible to turn off the auto setting so I can go back to using the old school manual intermittent switch? The auto setting simply doesn't work very well, period. It runs full blast out of nowhere for no reason, runs way too often in misty light rain, and works inconsistently all the time. I basically hate it.

(Off topic, but shows engineers don't always think things through). Kinda like most SUVS, the rear wiper "low" setting is a complete joke. Low is a about 4-5 seconds, when low should be more like 2 minutes (or more). There should be a medium at like 1 minute (or more), and hi should be like 30 seconds (or more). There is no purpose for "on" that runs constantly for rear windows, not even in a torrential downpour. After years with rear SUV windows, why can't these guys figure that stuff out?

I have the auto function instead of intermittent on my n-line hybrid 2024 and it's a crap shoot sometimes it comes on but takes ages to wipe the windows when it's hard to see out, other times as you said fir no reason goes nuts when it's dry. Sometimes it works but half the time I have to keep doing it manually with mist setting or set normal function to low so it's always on or keep wiggling intensity up and down to get it to wipe or stop. Maybe I should see the dealer. Maybe sensor is knackered.

I may be the exception, but I love my rain-sensing wipers! Sure, they occasionally work faster than necessary for a short time or don't come on quite as quickly as I would want, but they always operate within acceptable limits. Best of all, I don't have to constantly adjust the speed in light/intermittent rain.
I also appreciate the auto headlight function with the high beams on. They have worked perfectly for me whenever I've needed them.
