In post #68, I provided a link to a video of how to remove the plug from the speaker. However, some would not want to permanently disable this speaker. That's why we ENDORSED muting the thing. However, I mentioned more than once that a better idea might be to install a simple momentary switch in the circuit that enables the driver to shut off the speaker for a few seconds while depressing the switch's button. Better idea? You be the judge. Anyway, to do this, one must access the plug and its wiring.
How?
1. Remove the bumper. Video showing how to do so found here:
CLICKY.
2. Remove the connector that powers the speaker.
3. Determine which wire powers the speaker with a volt/ohm meter.
4. Temporarily cut the wire and install a pair of jumper wires and run them up under the dash to the switch
5. Install a N/C momentary switch. This "reconnects" the speaker. One can be found here:
CLICKY
A "N/C momentary switch" is normally closed. That's what the N/C stands for. The only time it functions is when you push it: it will temporarily disconnect the circuit. Take your finger off, and it's back on again.
Disclaimer: we've discussed the morality and the legality of doing this on these pages. Nobody on this forum recommends or endorses disabling a warning device installed by the factory. I've assembled a little information here that's publicly available to any one who decides that they might want to disconnect this speaker on occasion. I should add that the moment you push this button, you are morally and legally responsible for what you might back into. But then again, I would think that we are ALWAYS responsible for this anyway. My thoughts? If I can't SAFELY back up a car equipped with a really nice back up camera (thank you Hyundai), I shouldn't be driving.
