if I am right, grabbing the handle (touching the back of the handle) unlocks the doors, and touching the indent locks the doors. That's what I have found out and have been doing (2022 SEL Conv Hybrid).
Grabbing or holding the handle opens and touching ( use thumb) the indent locks. This works perfectly fine for me.

I would like it if it locked itself. I think if its smart enough to send me a message telling me I didn’t lock it it should be able to lock itself a minute or two after you exit.
I’m guessing that Hyundai didn’t do that due to the possibility of the fob being left inside the car and customers bidding autolocked out if their cars. I always keep the fob and my keys in my pocket while driving.

I read somewhere (probably on this forum) to just swipe your hand across the handle. So far, worked every time for me. There is a slight delay but if you swipe the handle your hand is off for enough time that it will react properly.
Same here, I just drag the back of my hand across the outside of the handle, I hear the locked chime as I walk away.

It looks to me that you can't lock it with the fob in the car, the system knows it's there. Our Nissan you can lock the doors with it inside, however it isn't really locked because you can also unlock it with fob inside.

I would probably use that feature, but I know me. I would have to wait to hear it actually lock so in the end no real advantage, for me!

It doesn't LIKE to let you lock the doors if there is a fob inside, but I can do it using the lock button on the other fob. One day I didn't realize the second one was in my handbag which I had left in the car. The BEEEP when I tried to lock with the door handle button reminded me. But as I had a second fob in my pocket, I could still lock the doors. I haven't yet tried to lock the doors remotely (with my phone) while there is a fob inside, but that will make an interesting experiment. :)

This thread is very helpful. I've only had my Tucson Limited a couple of weeks and wondered why the thumb button on the door handle did not seem consistently responsive, whereas it unlocked the moment I walked up close enough to the driver's door... even without touching it at all. Now I shall try the various "swiping" methods for the locking function.

That's a different situation. If you have a fob in your hand you are not locked out with the other fob inside. You can't lock the doors with the fob inside by using the handle lock or the inside door lock because then you cold be locked out if the 2nd fob is not with you.

Yes, remote lock/unlock works with the fob inside. It works with the car running and locked also, when a fob will not,
Tested - with car running opened window, took fob with me, put my hand in locked the door. Fob would not unlock. Remote did.
Repeated with fob still inside, remote unlocked.

(Moved to this existing thread)

I have a 2023 and I am wondering if there is any way for me to press the interior lock button to lock all the doors after I open the car door to get out of the vehicle? It would be so much easier to do this than to put my hand on the door handle ater I'm out and have to wait for the car to lock, especially on cold and rainy days.

Lots of information on this site sometimes a search will help. No you can't, keep the fob in your pocket even after walking away and you can lock it. Or wait a second and swipe the door handle. Or use Bluelink.

Read the posts here for answers. No fob? Use digital keys or digital key card, or Bluelink.
Sorry, I meant that the lock and unlock switches on the driver's door only lock/unlock while the ignition is on. It will not lock when I exit the vehicle by using this driver's door switch. I only can lock via the outside door handle or key fob.
My old Chrysler vehicle allowed me to lock it by using the same type of switch on the inside of the driver's door when I exited.
