Oh, I see. That could be interesting then, if it works.

So, I just got the device today ( Amazon had hard time to deliver it - they almost lost it at one point, but finally got it delivered). In any case, this is a "preliminary" report, if I may. Not planning driving today and only got device connected to the USB data port and paired it via Bluetooth. It takes approx. between 10 seconds to 30 seconds after engine started (data port is active) and Android phone to re-establish connection ( means, I paired it once, in the beginning, and I shut engine down and restarted a few times and that is the time it takes to reconnect on its own).
Unfortunately, it does NOT do FULL screen as iPhone does but it does split screen for Google Maps and whatever media app you may have on Android phone. You can have 3/4 of the infotainment screen with Google maps on the left and 1/4 of whatever media app you use on the right or 3/4 of the media on the left and 1/4 of the Google maps on the right. You can also have Google maps on the left and split screen on the right - means, in addition to phone media apps on the right you can cycle through the whatever user checked via Hyundai split screen options ( Hybrid, clock, media, etc. - exactly the same way as wired Android Auto does, see my previous screenshots above). It only does that if "split screen" box is checked under Apple "CarPlay" option.
Below are a few screenshots I took a moments ago.
Also, I have not tested anything else - don't know how stable connection would be during driving, phone call quality, etc. Will update in a few days - as I gather more data.
Another "unfortunate" thing is that this particular topic started as of navigation system upgrade and somehow deviated to wireless Android Auto and there are, at least, three other threads that, most likely, would be happy to see this post because this is what they were looking for...Have to find those and may update them as well ( unless someone will just post a link to this thread)
P.S. To point out - if Apple CarPlay split screen box is not checked - output would be with Android menu vertically on the left side ( and no small triangle on the right edge).
If Apple CarPlay split screen box is checked - phone menu would be at the bottom of the screen, horizontally and you will see a small triangle at the right edge and you can swipe through the additional screens.

I'm pretty sure I can get something similar to that with Android Auto (phone plugged in). So the only advantage is that you don't need to plug your phone in each time you get in the car. Or have I missed something?

There are a few differences, as I see it at this time, is that when I use wired Android Auto:
- I cannot use phone media apps ( I have a few) and I cannot use car SiriusXM radio either on a split screen. It is either Google Maps on the left and car split screen available options ( but NOT car own radio!) on the right or phone media app on the left screen and car available options on the right but not Google maps
My main dissatisfaction with wired Android Auto is that when phone is plugged into the USB port ( and I don't use long USB-A to USB-C cable - otherwise it gets tangled ) I really cannot use phone touch screen at all ( even, if car is parked and it is safe to use) - because phone is connected to USB port via short cable and I have to disconnect it, etc. - too many "moves" to do something as simple as touch the phone screen. I don't know if I will keep this device but if it works as reliable as wired connection does - it would make a great difference in convenience, productivity, and overall experience.

Yes, it sounds like there are more options available to you in split screen mode with this. It does make me wonder if this is an issue with Android or Hyundai, though.

It has been 5 days since I installed and start using this wireless Android Auto adapter and used it daily.
Let's talk about Pros.
My Samsung S20 Ultra connects to the adapter with no issues, within under 20 seconds I start the car (sometimes it feels like an instant connection – if I don’t look at the infotainment console, where you can see connection progress, which is automatic - I don't even take phone out). I permanently unchecked Apple CarPlay split screen box – found, that if I have it checked ( and I mentioned it in my previous post) then Android Auto menu would be at the bottom and that makes Google maps screen smaller/narrower and, actually, I never really used right part of the split screen with wired Android Auto – kept it, mostly, for displaying clock.
Thus, I have Google maps on left part of split screen and one of my phone other apps - on the right part.
If I am on a call – either I placed a call or it is incoming call – Google Maps from the left part of the screen moves immediately to the right split part and left part is filled with caller information. I usually touch Google maps icon on that vertical menu on the left and Google maps moves back from the right split part to its preferred left and right split becomes caller info/image ( if caller photo exists in phone address book). All is convenient and nice, at least, to me.
Now to the Cons.
The only one thing that still bothers me – there were a few instances when callers told me that they either cannot hear me at all, or my voice sound garbled, and no words can be understood. Only way to “fix” it, as I found, is to disconnect wireless AA device and phone would immediately connects to car Bluetooth and calls are PERFECT!
I know for sure that this issue has nothing to do with the phone or location ( coverage) or a car - issue persists if car is parked, and cellular signal is strong but a soon as I disconnect wireless adapter (car stays in the same spot) - everything is back to normal, as it should be.
Unfortunately, even Bluetooth settings in the phone, as well as Tucson, BOTH have options to turn “Calls” and/or “Audio” off – it won’t work.
If I moved “Calls” slider off in my phone Bluetooth settings for this wireless device – it turns itself back on within a few seconds ( of course, as long as I am in the car and device is powered on). In car settings – as soon as wireless device is connected – it completely turns off/greyed out headset symbol in Bluetooth connection settings (but it keeps “Audio” on – which can be turned off manually, if I want to, but it still won’t allow to turn ON manually “Calls(headset symbol)” – unless I unplugged this wireless device, then, of course, car Bluetooth phone connection “takes over” automatically).
Today I sent email to the manufacturer support team – not sure if they would have any suggestions. Device firmware is as of 3/3/2022 and their website has even newer one – as of 3/19/2022 but according to Release Notes – it has nothing to do with voice calls – it is listed as a specific fix for some other car model, so – I don’t want to apply the latest firmware at this point. Will wait for support feedback...
Well, this is just FYI – for those who consider converting wired Android Auto into wireless. Again, this review is for the specific device I bought…

Good info all. I have what may be a dumb question and forgive my ignorance if it is. Going back to the NAV software update, does the vehicle have to be on the entire time for it to complete? I have non hybrid, Limited in the US and leaving it running idle for 30 mins to an hour seems excessive. Can it be done in background while driving? Thanks in advance.

I'm sure it can be done while driving. I just had mine on battery (turn it on without pressing the brake pedal) for about an hour to get it all sorted.

I'm a bit confused. You posted some screenshots with the AA menu on the bottom in split screen and some without. I feel like a need a flow chart to understand all the different options to select and what it looks like when doing AA through CarPlay.

Well, the first image below is when "split screen" box in car settings ("Setup" - "Android Auto" - "CarPlay") is NOT checked ( and that is now my preferred option).
When box is NOT checked, Android Auto menu is placed VERTICALLY to the left edge.
As such, Google maps view is taller (wider) and I prefer it that way.
You may also notice that there is NO small triangle/arrow all the way to the right edge ( split screen box is NOT checked - no options to scroll through).
Image

However, if you would like to have split screen and see additional ( Hyundai provided/controlled additional options - such as compass, clock, weather, hybrid, etc.) - then you should check that box in settings - then Android Auto ( or CarPlay, if you would like to call it that way) menu moves to the bottom ( see image below) and right part of the split screen has that triangle - means, you can scroll through additional views.

I hope this helps but, of course, when you have it - there is quite a number of different scenarios - based on whatever apps you may have on your phone and whatever settings you may enabled in Android Auto on your phone and whatever options you checked in car split screen settings.

I thought the intent of using an intermediate setup (CarPlay) was to get full screen for things like Google Maps, but it doesn't seem like that's an option regardless when using AA. Is this what you've experienced?

In my earlier post, where I described first experience with this device, I wrote that it doesn't do full screen as actual iPhone CarPlay does ( at least, as per my tests via wired connection).
I don't know if iPhone CarPlay does full screen for those who have Tucson trims with wireless connection only.
In any case, I am happy with the way how this wireless Android Auto device works for me - I can use phone for multitasking now - I can look up emails, answer Skype calls, etc. and that was really not possible with a short USB cable when phone was directly plugged into USB port. And, as I already mentioned before, I didn't use long USB cord because it got tangled very easily.

Sorry, I'm following so many threads in my researching for a purchase that I forgot. I appreciate the patience in repeating yourself!

Do you think a straight wireless Android Auto adapter would function the same way?

I don't think so - if it does not do full screen via wired connection, why should it be different wirelessly? It is strictly phone output ( I think this is why even with CarPlay adapter, it still didn't do full screen - phone, for whatever reason, didn't allow it. Just a guess - hvae nothing to support it. :)

Sorry again - I don't think I was clear with my last question. What I meant: do you see any different in functionality using your CarPlay intermediary versus just buying an Android Auto wireless adapter instead. That is, does the CarPlay offer more options for widgets? From your previous posts it seems like going through a CarPlay intermediary offers a bit more options for what the other portion of the split screen can do, but I wanted to confirm that I was getting the right impression.

OK, I should not say just "full screen" but my answer still applies to entire functionality. Because wired Android Auto does not do full screen and doesn't do its OWN split screen ( as wired iPhone CarPlay did in my tests and as I currently have with this adapter) - so, my assumption is that even if you buy dedicated wireless Android Auto - you will end with the same result as if you used wired Android Auto. Think of it as if currently you have Android phone and connected it via USB connection to the infotainment console - how it would be different if your Android phone will connect to the "middle man" wireless adapter, which then connects to the same USB port via wire? Whatever Android phone outputs - you will see it the same way - wired or wireless., as long as it is still ALL Android. Android to Apple CarPlay adapter/device seems like does introduce something in between and that makes all the difference. Just my thinking...

Ok, thanks for the clarification! This behavior to me indicates it is an issue with Hyundai/Kia. If AA can do a more functional split screen through CarPlay, unless someone here with more programming knowledge can explain differently, logically there is no reason you can't do it solely through AA.

To add to my post from yesterday, looks like Hyundai added widescreen for Android Auto with this latest update (for the 10.25" screen).
I didn't notice such feature listed in Hyundai notification update but I did go ahead yesterday and updated to the latest release ( navigation update only, didn't have time to deal with audio update - which that where, I would assume, screen changes may be reflected, but I have Hybrid Limited, thus wired Android Auto. However Audio update, for whatever reason, mentions wireless Android and CarPlay updates only - in any case, will do Audio update later today. Entire update took around 55 minutes ( they stated it would take around 45 min). I didn't test those newly advertised features (like maps color themes, POI, etc.), but I really had a hope to maps itself being updated. I moved into newly built development and it is a year+ old and Google Maps has it perfectly mapped from the "day one" but Tucson maps/navigation system shows car driving in "wilderness"...and it is still "off the radar" after this update...hopefully it may have updates for some other owners/navigation users who also didn't have streets/areas they drive....
