User Settings Reset

I have a 23 Tuscan limited hybrid. I’ve had it for almost 3 months. Today I got in, turned the car on and the display screen said “Resetting user settings”. I obviously didn’t ask for this to happen but sure enough everything has reset to factory settings. Any idea why this would happen? I called the dealership and talked to the service department and they said it could have been a computer update that cleared the settings but if that happens with every updates it’s quite inconvenient. This happen to anyone else?

Yes indeed they got me as well today. Following this resetting of my user profile I got the notice of a software update. Just a warning--DO NOT DO THE UPDATE UNTIL YOU ARE AT YOUR HOME OR FINAL DESTINATION. It says 15 minutes but it takes much longer and you can not operate the car until it is finished.

Oddly my user profile was reset without me pressing the start button. I got into my car and connected my phone and my accessories turned on. The radio started, the digital dash light up and the User Profile Reset message came up. I never touched the start button. The engine did not start, just the accessories.

Now I have to reset all my options. Especially concerning was the Active safety features that were turned on. My clock lost an hour because I had Daylight Savings selected. I lost all my radio settings and my Sirius Radio account. All this for some updates like seeing my speedometer and tach in a digital cube.

Automakers may be able to write software, they certainly do not know how to implement maintenance patches and updates.

… DO NOT DO THE UPDATE UNTIL YOU ARE AT YOUR HOME OR FINAL DESTINATION.

… Daylight Savings…
AGREED, I don’t want to do ANY updates myself. My 2022 Tucson Hybrid ”Limited” has only 4800 miles. I took it to the dealer for first service and they did a firmware update. They bricked my car. They have two in the shop with this issue. I’ve been driving the dealer “courtesy car” for 6 weeks now, and they still don’t know when to expect the replacement ECM. The good news is that I’m putting miles on their car, not mine.

Note: the name is “Daylight Saving” without the trailing S. And we all know it saves absolutely nothing - just like cutting 12 inches off the bottom of a blanket just to sew it onto the top.

Same as all of you, it happened with my Hyundai Tucson Limited Hybrid 2023 today, 6/10/2023. I started the car and it reset everything in my profile.
I had installed the May update a month ago and it had been working without issues until now.

In a different thread, a user had claimed that Hyundai would start doing Over The Air updates on July 12. I wonder if this was related to those updates...

Lots of posts and threads about this over on the Hyundai forums, as well, when it comes to other Hyundai models. We're not alone.

Hopefully Hyundai issues some sort of statement on this, because my confidence levels in them are at all-time lows.

Anyway, I've spent the last 30 minutes getting my settings back to where there were... hopefully it doesn't get erased again!

If you can link to a post that got a software update screen that would be helpful. All I have seen described and actually there is a post somewhere that shows it, a screen to update your profile.

And if there is just one person who said there was an update screen for software, I bet they are wrong it was not for that or - a coincidence and they do need to update. We should see several reports of seeing a software update screen if it is happening I would think.

Here's a post from the other forum to me - He/She has a 2022 not able to update OTA.
i agree with you. i have not updated this last update waiting to see if there where any problems before i do. i have the same problem that everybody is having.
Everything points to a Bluelink issue from the different years affected to some not being able to sign into Bluelink for awhile, to seeing their profile in their app and/or online but not on the screen. Not 100% certain but far more likely.

Have a '23 Tucson that got Driver 1 deleted yesterday. The same as described above. I did not notice anything until I was driving out of a parking lot and realized the music was not on...that's when I looked at the screen and it displayed an intentional reset to original factory settings - PITA is right! Can a screwy command mistakenly be issued from the 'cloud' that will overide Lane Departure Assist and cause a head-on collision? Hyundai had better issue some type of explanation!

This reminds me of the time Apple pushed that U2 album onto everyone's iPhone.
Not only do manufacturers have access to all of your data (regardless of your privacy settings), they can also push whatever data they want to...
Especially true of cell phones, Android makes changes that eventually you have to download want to or not, Windows also. If you put it off long enough if it isn't automatically done, your phone or Windows will slow down or certain features won't work till you update.

I received this email over night. Hyundai did finally own up to it. . .
Dear __,

Over the weekend our systems experienced an issue causing user profile data to be reset for a select group of customers. In most cases the user profile data should have been restored on Saturday following the incident. However if your settings were not restored, or you are still experiencing difficulty in resetting your profile, please review this video with instructions on how to setup your profile. If you are still experiencing issues or have concerns, please share your experience including screen shots if possible to the Contact Us form so that we may assist you as effectively as possible.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and thank you for your patience.

Best regards,

This is NOT something that I have seen in 3 Hyundai Hybrids over 13 years (Sonata Hybrid and two Tucson Hybrids).

You should add your car details in your profile...that way everyone can see what you have easily.

Where are you in the UK?...I was born in Tottenham but have lived in the US since 1977.
