Has anyone successfully disconnected or significantly muffled the obnoxious back up alarm on a 2022 hyundai tucson?
As far as reducing the volume, there are several threads here on how to do that. Just search for "vess" here in the forums. There have been some that have gone as far as disconnecting the vess speaker all together. Again, you can find that information here in the forums.I live in a neighborhood with folks living next to our driveway. When I back out late at night our Tucson Hybrid Limited makes a very loud continuous backup noise that understandably disturbs them. How can I either turn this off, or significantly reduce the volume? If I can’t do this on the Setup display, then can Hyundai service do this using their computer-based configuration system?
Welcome!My wife & I recently purchased a 2023 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Blue.
We quickly noticed when putting the vehicle into reverse, the very loud VESS speakers.
Many of these posts have been helpful as the loudness is really overkill!
For safety reasons, we were certainly not about to disconnect the VESS as noted in some of these posts.
One of the posts I found most helpful was Cjn2nd's post from April 26, 2022.
From Amazon I did purchase these 6" x 6" Excel foam pads
(XCEL Anti Vibration Acoustic Pads) The pads have very good adhesive and stand up to rainwater/weather.
There is a 1/16' enclosure/rim that surrounds the actual VESS. I measured the inside of this at 4-3/4" x 4-3/4" and cut a pad accordingly.
I used two slotted screwdrivers to help position the pad behind the grill. It is of course finicky since after removing the paper backing, it will want to stick to the VESS before you get it positioned. After I did get it positioned right inside the enclosure (3-4 minutes) I simply pushed it in with my fingers.
Some pictures are enclosed that might be helpful.

x2, appreciate the pics and glad you found us!Welcome!
Great first post thanks.
Can you confirm whether this fix fully mutes the sound generated in Drive that warns pedestrians in front of you that a car is approaching? The back up sound is WAY too loud, but the forward sound seems just right, and is pretty cool. Thanks. My wife & I recently purchased a 2023 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Blue.

PpThat's a pretty good idea... the access through the grill is so tight though! Also, as a side note, does anyone else think it's kinda odd to put the reverse beeper in the front?
Used 2 pads and still just as loud, or maybe even moreMy wife & I recently purchased a 2023 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Blue.

Since it worked for everyone else I would guess you didn't cover the speaker.Used 2 pads and still just as loud, or maybe even more

Even if you can't tell by the photo, i'm telling you its over the speaker lol, that's why i brought it up...I can't tell from that picture you have it over/on the speaker. Seems to defy science putting a rubber covering over a speaker makes it louder, and worked well for others.
Are those whitish/grayish things that I marked in red - pads you put on? Or this is something else?Even if you can't tell by the photo, i'm telling you its over the speaker lol, that's why i brought it up...
Well, you found your solution...Yes to all of the questions. I ordered the one that everyone was recommending: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071GD8TG9?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
And afterwards it sounded like there was another speaker on. I don't think they would've change it on the 2024s. Just removed the pads again and disconnected the speaker. So guess i'm going that route
Then that's probably the answer. But it feel like 2 of them should have reduced the noiseWell, you found your solution...
However, based on the link you provided for the pads you bought, those pads are 1/4" thick only.
Most of us used 3/4" thick pads (my own post in this thread links to what I bought and used). But I only used one pad - it was enough to significantly reduce backup alarm.
I ordered the 1/2" thick pads that were basically the same type: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08P1XV4D7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1Well, you found your solution...
