::Tampa8:: "....I think I can explain the confusion on this. Over time, if you keep track of your mileage by using the shutoff method it will almost certainly even out - sometimes you will think you are getting a little better mpg sometimes less, sometimes near exact. In the end you are pretty close to the mpg....."

You saved me a %$THPot full of typing - tkx. For anywhere close to 'Combined' or average mileage it's always been rather evident to weigh the miles after numerous tankfuls. Even before computers it was simple jotting down each fillup, and then watching the 'moving average' as a factor of ever-greater total gallons-miles. Even more fun to jot down a simple key of varying types of driving to track dips or spikes that popped up - ala strictly commutes, vacation week, roadtrip, spirited puttering around....

I had a couple cars I'd make extra effort to play with them enough to get in single digits. I guess I should've kept track of "treadage" as well.

Thank you gentlemen, you're the best. You've elaborated well on what I said in my final paragraph of post 78, copied below:
"That said, the more likely issue is just how much I fill the tank each time: hard to know when it's "full." This can account for huge inaccuracies. Therefore the figures I provided reflect a combination of every fill since the car was new... all added together.
My calculator is therefore accurate, sir.

Anyway, all that aside, and hopefully any confusion dispelled, perhaps we can focus on the important point I wanted to make...

...that whatever errors the pumps make in telling us exactly how much gas we've purchased... is minor compared to the errors made in deciding just WHEN our tank is full.

Very simply, if traveling 3000 miles total takes 100 gallons of fuel (all totaled), I've got 30 mpg. What I think I may have gotten on each tankful will vary, as both Tucspouse and Tampa8 wisely said, with just "exactly when" I assumed the tank was full each individual time. But this tank by tank variation will even out over time, again, thanks fellas. This whole concept, and this conversation for that matter, would have made a great illustration for my science classes back during my teaching days. Lot size, repeatability, averaging out multiple samples over time, are all factors in doing accurate testing and providing reputable data.

Just channeling warm (and highly relatable) remembrances of the 'Dennis The Menace', where he and his dad tortured that curmudgeonly old neighbor by siphoning off gas from his car, but then also sometimes adding more in. The whole episode was those two going over each weekend to ask about the 'ol fart's mileage.

First he'd be beaming, "For two weeks now I've been getting 40mpg, and I'll bet you can't beat that!" Then the very next week, "I don't understand what could be wrong, I only got 11mpg last week."

And Dennis & dad would slink off back to their house giggling the whole time. Ah, just some good 'ol fashioned American larcenous father-son bonding.

Not sure, but vaguely recall the old coot's (exceptionally nice) wife fessed up later she'd known about the scam the whole time (spied those two at it out the kitchen window). She didn't mind letting her husband get a good lesson in being too prideful, especially at other's expense.

Ha... I grew up watching that show. I could certainly understand Dennis's pain when he got stuck playing house with Margaret. My cousins used to do the same thing to me: TORTURE.

That said, your mileage was certainly lower during the break-in period

Took awhile to notice this item, but another great design feature: they certainly got the windshield wiper system right. First, whenever I change the function of the wipers, like for example increasing their speed, WHAT I JUST DID pops up on the display. Nice. Then the wiper stalk is a really slick design, love that as well. And to top it off, when the passenger side wiper reverses direction in the middle of the windshield, it's NOT DIRECTLY IN MY LINE OF SIGHT like my dumb Camry was. I used to find that so frustrating. Thanks Hyundai :)

Along with changing the headlights I do like that the cluster shows what you just did. And I really like how they hid the rear wiper for a clean look.

Rear wiper: agreed. Today I was looking through my review at something and noted that the "bulge of the badge" was in the way. Of all the great features on this car, that mysterious hump in the rear glass just slays me.

Hello. We just bought a Tucson 2024 today and as we came home we noticed that none of the interior lights turn on unless the car is turned on (even the door lights when these are opened). I tried all the controls inside ( including the ones next to the lights) and nothing seem to work. Any advice please? thank you

Welcome aboard Cesar. Congrats on your new purchase. First off, as often as I can remember, I'd advise this for all new owners: get yourself a volt meter Clicky.
They typically cost less than 10 bucks, and they're cheap insurance. Unfortunately Hyundai didn't supply a volt meter with the car. Just pop it into the cigarette lighter outlet on the dash, and keep an eye on it.
Your lights: did you get an owner's manual with the car? A quick answer would be to stop in to ask your salesman about it. He likely can get ya straightened out. Otherwise, time for a little reading?
That said, the intent of this particular thread is to talk about the things we appreciate about this amazing machine.

Is your light switch set to ”auto”?

Is your light switch set to ”auto”?
I doubt That's It as my light switch ('23 Ltd) is OFF because I don't want the headlights coming on each time i pull into the garage - yet my inside lights (ie) door open temp map lights) work as Kev desires.
LOOK in Setup and SEE IF THAT is a Setting to Change.
Call Sales Rep whose commission you just paid to find the answer.... if no luck......

Betting you didn't push the correct light switch overhead. Take your time and look at the switches above you, one of them controls if the lights come on or they don't come on. The others are individual light switches. Look in the online manual or if you received a full manual look, there is a diagram.

Also - if you leave the doors open long enough to make the lights go out to not drain the battery, those lights will not come on for awhile again I believe till the car is started.

Na. got to read the manual, saw videos in online. Nothing. We are going back to the dealer. Hopefully we are just being dumb about something.

Let us know if that turns out to be the issue. I'm thinking that isn't how it is wired but I easily could be wrong and I don't have the car with me right now to see. If they actually see the blown fuse then I guess that is it. I might wonder why it blew, but it happens.

It was not a fuse... then they made a software update on the body control module, and the lights still do not work. They're now keeping the car overnight

Thank you for getting back to us!
I was obviously skeptical it was a fuse. I believe there is one fuse for those lights, and they are not alone so something else (Maybe the cluster lights?) should have also been out. Also they worked with the engine on.

They will figure it out, if I had to figure it out I would start with the switch I thought maybe you did not turn on, and see if it is connected, broken etc because the lights act like that switch is off. But in new cars who knows.

Do you know what the update is for on the body control module?

So back to our thread topic LITTLE THINGS.
Was getting out of the car yesterday and the thought occurred to me, I like this fabric. Since I bought the SEL, it has black cloth seats. Though I have my issues with seat comfort, one thing I'm thankful for: the fabric is amazing. It's kinda "slick" in that I can slide easily in and out of the car. This was not the case with most other cars I've had with cloth seats, especially when it's warm and I'm a little sweaty. Ya know how ya stick to everything... But not so with these seats. They got it right when they chose this particular fabric.
