The Reverse sound emanating from the front of the Tucson Hybrid sound is loud, odd, and frankly embarrassing. A neighbor has complained that it wakes her up in the morning. The dealer's hands are tied because it's a feature of the vehicle. If anyone comes up with a solution for how to mitigate this issue, please post.
We put masking tape over speaker at the front thru grille. Sound is mu h quieter even though u can still hear it

Much easier than trying to get foam to stick in front of the horn (closed cell acoustic foam doesn't adhere very well to double sided adhesive :( ), and everyone NEEDS Gorilla tape, so it's a WIN WIN! It only takes 5 minutes to do as well :)

Just put (3) 5"strips of the 2" wide Gorilla Tape in front of the horn and it's now 80% quieter. Just drop one strip down from the grill opening and tack to the left side of the horn once you get it equal top to bottom, do the same for the right side. Once you get both sides where you want them firmly press it down to seal all the edges and stick to the horn slats. Then put one down the middle, but don't stick it down firm yet. If you want a bit more horn volume just leave a 1/4" gap down that final middle piece. I didn't try that, but did try leaving out the middle strip and it didn't seem any quieter (it was approx. a 1" open slot). You can try going down to 1/4" gap and see, maybe even a 1/8" gap would still get you down to 50% volume???
Once you get the volume where you want it final tack the middle piece. I'm happy w/ the full covered volume, you can still hear it but your neighbors won't :)

Thanks so much! nfh

After reading all the threads and comments, I decided to go the gorilla tape route (great idea w/o removing the grill). I decided to pick up a 2-gang blank plastic electrical plate from a local hardware store (99 cents) and a roll of black gorilla tape. I wrapped the electrical plate with the gorilla tape, then used tape to attach the plate over the speaker. The 2-gang blank plate was the absolute perfect size. After 2 layers of tape over the electrical place to fasten to the speaker, it is now roughly 10-20% of the original db. Not offensive, just audible enough to hear it if you're standing near the car. Hope this helps anybody in need.

We possibly need an electronic engineer who could offer a solution. Maybe there is an eprom that can be swapped out. Maybe there is a way to load a different sound file, to replace the existing one. Come on electronic engineer! Help us out! ;0)

That answer has already been provided on this thread. However, your "sound file" idea is theoretically possible, but not practically viable. Somebody with the needed skill level would have to spend the cubic hours necessary with one of the car's computers to hack in and chart out a path for success. Those with this level of knowledge and ability are simply not going to do so without an obvious path to a big financial pay back. I don't see that happening. The average Tucson owner has just enough energy to complain, but not enough energy to remove a grill. What's that tell you? Buy a roll of tape.

The audio signals to the speaker are transmitted via canbus lines. These are digital signals that are converted to analog audio and amplified in the speaker assembly. Almost certainly there's a volume control pot that can be adjusted on the amplifier if you have the motivation to remove the front fascia to access the speaker and then open the speaker to look for the volume pot. How motivated are you? I don't think a single person out of all the complainers has gone to the trouble to do this. As for myself, I'm not the least bit bothered by the backup sound. In fact, I like it. I want little kids and animals to be warned when I'm backing.

Honestly, I can barely hear the sound inside my Limited. My wife says it is very loud outside as she can hear me sneaking home while she is in her office during the day 🤓 Now she never tells me that she never heard me come home

Mike: now here's an interesting thought: the guilty party is usually the one who says "I don't smell anything..."

I wonder then if this is an opportunity for a third party who can offer a purchasable modification? If the squawk box, sort of speak, could be replaced by a reprogrammed squawk box with alternative sounds?
If enough Tucson owners want it, then there is a market, but if not, well….

We've addressed this issue many times here. However, an alternative "song" for the quack-box? Hmmm, that's a new one. My dad hooked up a "Meep-meep" horn to his car years ago. Sounded like the road runner every time he beeped the horn.

The forum has provided some alternatives. Do a search for "VESS" on this forum. One such thread was here: CLICKY Another thread provided a solution here CLICKY2 We also talked about momentary on/off switches. These switches usually turn something ON when ya hold them down. However, they are also available where they do the opposite: they only turn something OFF when ya hold them down. It's called a push button momentary normally open switch... like the one found here: CLICKY3 This unique on/off switch is spring loaded, and stays on all the time until you hold it down. That's when it turns something off, but only for as long as ya push the button.

Note that on my 2025 Blue Hybrid...the backup noise is a much more melodic chime than my previous 2022 SEL (which was like a dump truck backing up). I'm not sure in which model year that changed (if before 2025) but certainly much less obnoxious now. I have a suspicion that my neighbors would approve of the new chime.

Well, if you want to sneak home...then drive in forwards :) My wife, often, doesn't even hear the garage door go up. I guess that is down to her having one ear that doesn't really work. I try to get her to go back to an ENT and ask about hearing aids but she won't.

That what being married to an RN is like...they think they know everything medical.

As a retired software engineer, I KNOW I know everything about confusers. There is a difference

It changed in 2025, my '24 still has the one where I get to see my neighbors hurriedly dragging their garbage cans out to the street when I leave early on trash collection day. Okay, not really, but it sure feels that way. :ROFLMAO:
