Honestly, I can barely hear the sound inside my Limited. My wife says it is very loud outside as she can hear me sneaking home while she is in her office during the day 🤓 Now she never tells me that she never heard me come home

I can also barely hear the tone inside my new Limited, but the other day, my wife came out when I was backing out of the garage. Apparently it was loud enough inside the garage for her to hear it in the kitchen. She came out thinking something was wrong with the car. 🤣. I have noticed, I think, that it makes the same sound when driving on battery only in my neighborhood. Don’t know if it is speed limited, though.

I’m going to have to back out of the garage next time I go out with the window down. I still have stickers over the window controls after having my car tinted 6 days ago.

I disconnected the connector attached to the front speaker, and now I no longer hear the angelic sound while driving or the loud noise when reversing. However, I was worried that water might get into the disconnected connector and cause damage, so I wrapped it with a zipper bag and secured it with a zip tie. Just to be sure, I also did a car wash, and no water got inside, and everything has been resolved. Now I can park inside the garage :)

Is it legal to disconnect a car safety system? In this case, for other cars and/or pedestrians.

Unfortunately, it is illegal. But in situations when I need any sound, I turn the heater to maximum or switch to sports mode to intentionally wake up the engine. I've often been next to a police car at a traffic light, but it seems like they don't notice.

Federal laws are for the car manufacturers not the buyer. Cars can not be sold without certain items in the U.S. or those items altered by a non owner. (such as repair people for instance) But Federal laws in this case do not transfer to the owner, that comes under State law.
It depends on State Law as to it being a criminal offense to disable any safety features that includes the use of seatbelts.

However laws are not the real problem if you disconnect a safety feature. Your insurance policy somewhere will say if that is the case they do not have to cover an accident claim.
In fact if they find you disabled safety features they can demand money for the discount they gave for your car having those features and they can go after you for insurance fraud.
Just like the car manufacturer, if you modify anything you are subject to not being covered by a warranty and by insurance if what you did lead to a problem with the car or for an accident.

Where you will end up paying and possibly losing everything is in a civil suit not criminal if you injure or kill someone and they find safety features disabled that are not normally able to be disabled.

Thank you Tampa. Wise words here. I was just thinking about this. If I EVER backed into anybody and injured them, I hope they put me in jail and take away my license for good. As much as human nature might clamor for mercy, there's simply no excuse for some things in this world. Thinking about all this, I'm so very thankful for the invention of the back up camera. I am sure it has saved a multitude of injuries.

The reverse noise maker n forward EV noise maker alerts our outdoor kitty to ski-doddle away every time :) But if she is not in the camera or eyeball view, I stop n get out to verify anyways (y)

I did the mod using the 5 inch electrical plate (blank) along with gorilla tape. Wrapped the box with 3 - 4 layers of tape then taped the plate to the front speaker. Before decimal was bouncing around the 95 - 105 range at 3 ft in front of the speaker. After, at 3 ft mark the decibel reading was right around 75. Only a drop of 25%. Not enough of a change for my liking. So, do I order a piece of foam as mentioned in a couple of posts above? Add this to existing gorilla tape and plate. I wonder what else could be done short of disconnecting the speaker completely.

@Tampa8 - said, “……….discount they gave for your car having those features. He’s referring to the safety features. Actually, my insurance went up significantly because repairs to my Hybrid are a lot more expensive than the non-hybrid. We’re talking $$ hundreds $$ of dollars!

I’m close to getting rid of this “noise” maker and getting a regular gas only vehicle. This alone will cut my car insurance by about $400 - $500 a year. I tried the hybrid experiment but turns out too many downsides. I’ll eat the bullet as this will initially cost me to get rid of this illusion of how wonderful a hybrid can be.

Gusto!

Note that the 2025 Tucson Hybrid has a nice melodic tone instead of the "dump truck backing up" noise on earlier model years. I'm not aware of my insurance being much higher with a hybrid although I have driven Hyundai Hybrids for over 12 years now.

I agree - I have to do something - we have a long driveway and my wife leaves early in the morning...we have to figure something out. Neighbors will not be happy !! I will investigate a bit more...

Thanks,

Your neighbors was really freak out when I fired up my Dodge Durango, and back down the driveway from a cold start. It’s a Hemi V8 with an aftermarket Borla exhaust system. They’d stop complaining about my Tucson hybrid noise real quick.
Personally o like the sound of my Tucson Hybrid when in reverse EV mode.
