Has anyone successfully disconnected or significantly muffled the obnoxious back up alarm on a 2022 hyundai tucson?
I just did this on the weekend. I bought the 6x6 size, and cut it down to about 5.25x5.25. I was able to finagle it through the grill and it was large enough to cover the speaker nicely. And I did what Clark said above, where I left the backing on the foam, moved it into position, held it against the inside of the grill while pulling off the backing, and then moved it onto the speaker. Worked pretty slick without it getting stuck on something I didn't want it to, and having to pull it off to reposition it.What size did you use? 4X4? I got the 6X6 and they are too large to fit through the grille.
Thanks so much, I appreciate your detailed experience.I did use the 6x6 (didn't even notice that other sizes were available). I don't think 4x4 would do the job.
It does take some wrestling to get the pad through the grille. (That's why I didn't take the backing off first - the adhesive would have stuck to everything during the wrestle.) It also takes a bit of doing to get the backing off the pad once it is behind the grille. Peeling back one corner of the backing before putting it behind the grille does help. Much longer and more flexible fingers than I have would also help.
Once the backing is off the pad and it is oriented correctly, slide the foam pad to the right into the speaker compartment. The adhesive will try to stick to that vertical piece of plastic between the radiator and the VESS speaker, so you'll need patience to work the foam past that. Once you clear that hurdle, you just press the foam firmly over the speaker and you're done.

I respect both you guys as I just got back from trying an insulation. Done, but sloppy. Keeping the backing on made sense to me but once the foam was almost in place I tried to remove it, unsuccessfully. I then tried installing w/o the backing. That was difficult for the reason expected but was finally wedged into place. Thanks so much, I appreciate your detailed experience.

One thing that neither of you mentioned was from which direction to install the patch. I first tried from the top and that was pretty much impossible so I then tried from the bottom. That is when I succeeded. I suspect that if I'd done that with the backing on it would definitely have slid in easier and it might have been possible to remove the backing, if one corner had been loosened.
And I, on the other hand, stuffed the pad (with one corner of the backing folded back) through the larger holes in the center of the grille (in front of the radiator). That gave me more room to remove the backing and orient the pad. Then I slid the pad to the right into the speaker compartment and pressed it onto the speaker. It was a bit tricky to get the pad from the center of the grille into the speaker compartment because the adhesive wanted to stick to the plastic partition separating the two compartments.I installed the foam patch directly through the front "holes" in the grill, right in front of the VESS speaker. I outlined with the red arrow in the picture below (not my car):

I used fingers on both hands, with one hand holding the foam patch in front of the speaker, and with the other hand I pulled off the backing from the foam. I had to stick my fingers through 2 or 3 adjoining grill holes to do it. I did loosen one corner of the backing before putting the foam through the grill hole. That made it easer to peel the backing off. Took some finagling, but my fingers are a little longer so maybe that helped. And I got lucky and was able to position the foam directly on the speaker on the first try.

Stuffed in the upper holes and pushed/pulled down, or from the lower holes and pulled/pushed up?And I, on the other hand, stuffed the pad (with one corner of the backing folded back) through the larger holes in the center of the grille (in front of the radiator). So that gives anyone who follows us 3 methods to choose from. They all result in a much quieter car. Many thanks to 2023TusconHybrid (the forum poster, not the car) - for finding these pads.
I'm not sure what you mean by "inserted from the top and pushed down". I inserted the foam pad directly into the holes in the front of the grill (right where the end of the arrow points in the picture above). Not from the top of anywhere, or the bottom of anywhere. Just directly through the front holes (the ones nearest the speaker). So you inserted from the top and pushed down.

I see. Frankly I don't recall exactly which of the holes that are close to the speaker that I pushed the foam through. I just picked one, then positioned the foam in front of the speaker, pulled off the backing, and pressed the foam on to the front of the speaker to cover it up.Yes, I understand but there are three holes over the speaker. I take it you used the middle one and then pushed the top of the pad up and the bottom down to cover the speaker. I used the bottom hole and pushed the pad all the way up to cover the speaker.

It is available in 1/4 and 1/8. I'd use one of those if I did it again. What size did you use? 4X4? I got the 6X6 and they are too large to fit through the grille.
How did you manage to see the slots in back?Anybody notice? There are speaker grill slots on the back of that POS too.
I like the post that shows how to unplug the thing and wire up a connector and switch, but over $100 for the connectors is insane.
I tried as someone suggested with 1/2 inch foam, but the sound reduction was not ideal. I sealed two 1/2 inch foams together and with four hands to hold the foam to the front grill, managed to secure it to the speaker successfully. Iphone decibel meter reduced from around 90 to 70, which is significant. Thanks to all for sharing your tips,I see. One more thing, cut 6 x 6" to around 5 1/4 x 5 1/4 with good coverage, easier to feel that sides matched up to speaker edges.I tried as someone suggested with 1/2 inch foam, but the sound reduction was not ideal. There's a rather simple fix outlined throughout this thread, if it were a major issue that would require something costly or obtrusive then yeah it would be a purchase I might regret. Hopefully you can get it fixed to your liking and not have any further regrets. As long as this is an issue we should be vocal so other people are aware of the issue, so they don't make the same regrettable purchase.
