I know this is old thread but I checked with some dealers and they told changing from stock to led bulbs are considered modifications to car and voids warranty in case something happens.

Also here in Canada insurance asks about ID we did any modifications to car.

I would like to do reverse light and indicators but not sure.

Ask the dealer to define "something."

Ask your insurance company to define "modification."

So far on the various Tucson forums there have been no reports of "something" happening due to these "modifications."

If you want, keep the old bulbs and swap them back in before going to the dealer if "something" happens.

Ask the dealer to replace the the eom light with LED, they will do it. They're trying to scare you, so they can do it and charge you. I am surprised they didn't ask you to get an Electrician to change it for you. LOL Anyway that is personal.

As with the above reply, having a dealer quote "telling you something" is next worthless and often no actual indication of the actual case. It would be necessary for 'the dealer', whether salesperson, service writer, GM or another, to be requested to show in writing the reference and guideline being cited for any confidence at all pertaining to any subject regarding a vehicle's warranty coverage and exclusions - including this one.
In the States there's been the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act enacted nearly a half-century ago to counter this exact sort of shifty malarkey with dealers/manufacturers tossing out, "The warranty's voided." at the drop of a hat. If a genuine concern where you are, then go ahead and get the written reference from the dealer and follow up by researching any comparable statutes to ours:
I don't gamble, but I'll bet big bucks their response will be, "Just read your warranty. Go ahead and risk it, you'll see."
I've done the cargo LED together with both the reverse and turn LEDS, and very pleased with the vastly increased illumination in each case (visibility for the first, and safety for the others). Modern electronics in cars are designed now to recognize and operate with LEDs much better than the old days when relays and flashers had difficulty functioning with LED's low draw v. incandescent (short version). It's going to be pretty hard for any light bulb to become the cause or source of trouble in operating a car.

I just caught this before my reply. Their tack is obviously to threaten and frighten you, with the very high probability you'll be cajoled into allowing them to charge you almost one hour labor for all 5 bulbs (min. $150CA) PLUS full retail x 100% markup on the bulbs (maybe $45CA).

I received my car today from dealer and as mentioned by all of you..they told they will not change to some aftermarket LEDs and told if they are any check lights displayed on dash and I bring the car to them then they will say it doesn't have hyundai warranty and start diagnostics for 140$/hour. Again the guy who advised is working in hyundai service department for 23 years and told they ignore such modifications when cars come for general.oil changes etc. but if some issues come and they notice anything like changes to car they will just say you did alterations to car and will not cover.

He also mentioned either you need to change it back to stock item and then bring. He gave an example where someone change headlight houding and it was not correct and they caught it and guy had to pay 1500 for headlight and labour etc.

So I will see if I really want to change it. Thanks to everyone for inputs

That is about 100% correct. And goes for about any modification someone makes. It does not void the warranty, but if they find that modification is causing the problem you are not covered for that repair or diagnosis.

Several dealers have said similar to me about adding a receiver hitch for example. That doesn't void the warranty, but if I have a transmission failure they may say that I was towing because I had it installed and deny a warranty claim.

So if you had electrical issues, yes, they could say the light modification did something that voids your warranty. A headlight housing could be a major modification, changing out the cargo light to an LED is incredibly low risk to me...like don't even worry about it.

I'm not sure how the dealership would feel about this mod, though, it's installing a "authorized" Hyundai light kit...

Oh well....

Cheers,

Hello everyone, I have a wonderful site that allows you to determine exactly which bulbs are on your car's headlights, it helped me a lot when I wanted to change my halogen bulbs to LEDs.
The site is useless in this fourm.
This is 22+ Tucson's, in which the site offers nothing.

Wrong forum doesn't have info for our cars. (2022+)

Thought I'd supply a link here to a post on replacing the incandescent cargo light with an LED bulb. Not the best fix, but twice as bright and relatively easy to do. It's found on a similar thread elsewhere on this forum. Included in the post is the link for where to buy the bulb.
