Hi folks,

Ordered the 2022 Tucson ultimate phev a week ago. Wondering how long folks here have been waiting for it in Canada for this car and how far along are you with your order.

I was told by the dealer I am likely to get a production date of 2022 Feb-mar and potentially a delivery date of mar-April next year!

hoping to see your experience.

I ordered with a dealer in the GTA.
we ordered a Tucson Hybrid Ultimate last week of August, told last week we won’t see it until at least Jan/Feb or Mar/Apr 2022. This is Eastern Ontario. Way longer than 8 to 12 weeks we were told at purchase.

Initially the salesperson wanted 2k deposit, i counter offered for 1k and they took it.

Refundable or not, it doesn't matter to me, as I wanted this car, but they did stated that if the wait time is too long, I can cancel it and get my money back.

However, they didn't say what is "too long".....But i would take it with a grain of salt.

Since the business manager said that manufacturer would penalize them for any canceled factory order, which is a BS to me.

BTW, did anyone of you got any discounts?

They tried that crap with me too. The website said $500 for a pre-order which I did and my credit card got charged. The dealer then called and told me they needed $1500 for the pre-order. I told them the website said $500 and that I had already got charged. The dealer told me they had no record of the deposit or pre-order. I had to show them a copy of my MC bill that said the dealer name and the $500 so they could go and find it in their system which they did. They told me I could not cancel nor have my deposit refunded yet on the website it is fully refundable. I have learned to push back on the dealers as for them it is just a money grab and they think they can strong hold you into bowing to their whims and wishes. They think you hare so invested in wanting the car that you will do anytning for it. For me, although I wanted the vehicle, I decided that I was not going to let anyone tell me how the deal was going to go down and that if they didn't like it, I was prepared to walk away from the deal. It seems that the car buying experience does not get better over the years in fact, especially now that there is a shortage of vechilces, it is getting worse.

Yeah, I know what you are saying, I personally find the whole car buying experience to be stressful.

My last car was a civic, and brought from a leasing manager at a honda dealer referred by my best friend, he gave a really good deal and the whole process was stress free.

This time, for the Tuscon, i decided to do this on my own, and i got to say, its a hassle to go from one dealer to another and finding the pricing and discounts to varies when comparing the deals.

I pre-ordered 2 in March of 2021 from 2 different dealers just to make sure I would get one. I paid the $500 pre-order deposit for both of them and the orders got placed. The arrival date turned from the spring, to the summer to the fall to the winter. Mine finally arrived at one dealer right before the middle of October. I had previously already tried to work out pricing with them but they would not commit to a price. The other dealer commited to a price on both my trade and the Tucson PHEV. When the first dealer called me to come in, they low balled me on my trade and then jacked the price up of the Tucson almost 4K. They told me they would not discount the Tucson nor increase my trade and that if I did not want it, they had 25 other people that would buy it site unseen. I took it for a test drive and wasted some of their time and then walked away (after getting my $500 deposit) as I was not going to be treated like that. In the mean time they had already put through all the paperwork with Hyundai and Sirius that I was buying the vehicle before they had a signed Bill of Sale. They were shocked when I asked for my vehicle keys and walked out. I told them they should not have a problem if they do have 25 other buyers. That evening they still would not move on the price of the Tucson and offered me another $500 for my trade. I didn't respond. I did get a bunch of emails from Hyundai and SirusXM with codes to activate the vehicle which I ignored. I hope they go screwed on the whole registration thing and Sirxus thing for thinking I would just bend to their wishes.

The second PHEV came in on October 25, 2021. I went to that dealer, drove the vehicle, we had a previous email thread on my trade value and the purchase of the new Tucson but found out they made a mistake on the MSRP of the Tucson and could not honour the orginal deal BUT at least they admitted the mistake and worked with my on a reasonable deal including 8 years/160,000 0$ premium plus warranty and 8yr/160,000km prepaid maintenance. I still didn't like the fact that all the work that went into the deal over the past months fell apart but at least they were not rude telling me that if I didn't buy it at their price they had 25 other people to buy it.

I have had the vehicle for a few days now and I am very impressed by the quality and features. I have only had Lincoln and Cadillac in the past but from my initial impressions with Hyundai, they have come along way from a vehicle that I would never ever had considered myself in.

This forum has been a great source of support and knowledge about the Tucson.

Thanks.

I didn't get a discount but got within $500 of what I wanted for my trade. After they tried to lowball me I got $3,500 more than their first offer!
I ordered mine (PHEV) in mid July (Hamilton, Ontario). Got an email two weeks ago that it was being produced in October (221). Still no word on delivery.
I ordered from Hamilton Hyundai. What about you?

Originally went to Grimsby Hyundai and they told me 4-6 weeks for delivery and an MSRP same as the hybrid just to get me to sign with them. Then they never called me back, went to mountain Hyundai and they were awesome. Offered $4000 more for my trade in and were honest about the 14-16 week wait time.

From what I understand, if the vehicle isn't delivered within 3 months then you are able to get your deposit back.
If it's on your credit card do NOT wait longer than 3 months. The time limit for a chargeback is 120 days. If they've changed the timetable on you at all and you've decided to go a different direction like grabbing a different vehicle or the same one from another dealer who's getting it in faster, just tell them. Most dealerships don't have you sign a contract for this so when the original terms are changed, the agreement is no longer valid and they'll just drop it at your request. And if they don't, a 5 minute call to your credit card company will save you a lot of money.

So, for those of you factory ordered the car, what if you see another dealer has an exact car in their inventory.

If there anything i can do?
You can ask? But there's likely some sort of transfer fee your dealer has to pay to the other one, and then you would pay a markup of that fee...

I would think that depends on:
  • whether you can actually GET (i.e. buy) the car you see in the other dealer's inventory (that dealer may be keeping it as a demo or an exec/owner may be driving it, or ...), and even if it's for sale, whether they can cut you a deal compatible with the one you already made
  • what you signed at the original dealer (& how much money or other aspects of the deal are at risk)
I would first contact this other dealer to get an EXACT read on what their plans are for that vehicle.

I would say probably not. I saw the exact car I wanted and drove over an hour to buy it. Not only would they not sell it to me, my local dealer said the other dealer is not obligated to let them have it if I tried to buy it through them.
